Houston's Ebonie Floyd Named Conference USA Women's Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week
April 20, 2006 Houston, Texas - - University of Houston junior All-America sprinter Ebonie Floyd was named the Conference USA women's outdoor track and field Athlete of the Week after winning the 200 meters at the Brutus Hamilton Invitational in Berkeley, Calif. on Saturday, April 15. Running in her first outdoor 200-meter event in nearly three years, Floyd won the race with the nation's fourth-fastest time of 23.14 seconds. Her time was with a wind of 2.3 meters per second, just three tenths of a second over the allowable. She also ran the anchor leg on Houston's winning 4x100-meter relay race that had a time of 45.40 seconds, and the Cougars' third-place 4x400-meter relay team that finished with a time of 3:51.11. Earlier this year, Floyd returned from a two-year absence for medical reasons and earned NCAA Indoor All-America honors as a member of Houston's 4x400-meter relay team that finished in eighth place at the NCAA Indoor Championships. She ran the anchor leg on the team when the Cougars set a school record with a time of 3:32.28 at the NCAA meet. Floyd also won the 200 meters at the Conference USA Indoor Championships with a time of 24.07. She also ran the anchor leg on Houston's winning 4x400-meter relay team at the C-USA meet. This marks the first time in the outdoor campaign that a UH athlete has earned C-USA Athlete of the Week honors. Seun Adigun, Caresir Hamilton, Preston Perry and Carey LaCour were named C-USA Indoor Athletes of the Week during the 2006 season.
