Houston, Texas - - The University of Houston women's track and field team is ranked as the 22nd best team in the nation in Trackwire.com's latest poll. This week marks the first time Houston has been ranked in the national poll.

Texas is ranked as the Top-ranked women's team in the poll, followed by Miami, Georgia, USC, Nebraska, LSU, Arizona State, Stanford, Auburn and South Carolina in the Top 10. The next 10 teams are North Carolina and UCLA at No. 11, Oregon, Florida State, Michigan, Texas A&M and BYU, along with Providence, Tennessee and Minnesota. Washington State, Houston, Akron, Maryland and Iowa round out the Top 25.

The Trackwire Top 25 poll is a projection of team scores at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, and factors in injury reports and other information gathered from coaches and NCAA-qualifying competitions across the country.

Scoring a ranking of Top 12 athletes and relay squads in each NCAA event known as the Dandy Dozen generates the projection.

In this week's Dandy Dozen women's rankings, junior Ebonie Floyd is ranked second in the 400 meters, and both of Houston's relay teams (4x100-meter and 4x400-meter) are ranked eighth.

In the men's Dandy Dozen rankings, Carey LaCour is ranked fourth and Preston Perry is ranked 11th among 200-meter sprinters. Houston's 4x100-meter relay team is ranked eighth and the Cougar 4x400-meter relay team is ranked 12th.
