Houston, Texas - Houston Track and Field sent select individuals to the 2012 Sam Houston State Twilight Invitational and came away with a number of improved performances as the Cougars prepare for next weekend's Conference USA Championships (May 11-13) in New Orleans.
Despite competing with an abbreviated group of performers the Cougars claimed wins in the 100-meter dash, 800 meters, men's discus, men's shot put and women's shot put, most importantly improving seeding for the final event of the regular season.
Isaiah Sweeneyran his fastest 100m time of the year en route to the victory. The dual-sport standout (also a wide receiver in football) ran 10.35, bettering his previous best mark of 10.57, which he set at the Mt. SAC Relays (April 19-21) in Walnut, Calif.
John Fortuneupped his season best in the shot put for his win. Fortune threw 54-08.00 to move up the C-USA standings, while his female counterpart, Samtha Taylor unleashed a season-best throw of 49-03.50 to win her event and record the fourth-best toss in the conference this year.
