Houston Track & Field Travels To Conference USA Championships
Houston Track & Field will travel to this weekend's Conference USA Championships in New Orleans, with the men's squad looking to claim a fourth consecutive outdoor title ... The Houston men have claimed nine C-USA outdoor titles since the start of the conference winning in: 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2003, 2005, 2009, 2010 and 2011 ... In fact Houston has only finished outside of the top two three times since joining the league.
The UH women boast six championships, winning in: 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Sweeney A True Dual Sport Threat
Isaiah Sweeney is one of Conference USA's top athletes and the senior will be vying for crowns in a number of events this weekend ... However did you know that the 5-foot-10, 175-pounder is also a standout on the football field and will be counted on as a wide receiver for new head coach Tony Levine?
Sweeney had two grabs for 28 yards and a TD last season, making a 28-yard TD reception in the win at North Texas on Sept. 10 ... The national leader in wins last season (tied LSU with 13 wins), Houston will replace its entire starting receiving corps in 2012 and a big factor could be the speedster, Sweeney, who made three catches for 32 yards in the Red & White Spring Game on April 13.
