Track & Field Gears Up for NCAA Outdoor Championships

2009 NCAA Outdoor Championship Schedule in PDF Format
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Houston track and field team will send six individuals to the 2009 NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships on June 10-13 at John McDonnell Field in Fayetteville, Ark. Seniors Seun Adigun and Ivan Diggs will close out their collegiate careers at their final meet as Cougars, competing in the 100-meter hurdles and the high jump, respectively. Adigun, the 2009 Conference USA Female Track Athlete of the Year, enters this week's championships after taking first at the NCAA Midwest Regional with a Midwest Regional record and personal best of 12.88. Her time ranks second in the nation. Diggs, who currently ranks fifth in the nation in the high jump, finished second at the Midwest Regional clearing 2.22m (7-03.25), just .01m off his personal best of 2.23m (7-03.75). Sophomore Chris Carter will compete in the triple jump, qualifying to compete at the NCAA championships for the second time in his career. Currently ranked seventh in the nation, Carter finished fifth at the Midwest Regional with a clearance of 16.20m (53-01.75). Fellow sophomore Tyron Carrier also qualified for his second NCAA championships, earning an at-large bid to compete in the 200m. Carrier, who advanced to the semifinals in the 200m at the meet a year ago, turned in a season-best mark of 20.74 at the Midwest Regional. Freshman Grecia Bolton also earned an at-large bid to compete, securing a spot in the women's 200m field. Bolton finished eighth at the Midwest Regional with a time of 23.78. Junior Brittani Williams will make her first career appearance at the NCAA championships, qualifying with an at-large bid in the javelin. Williams set a personal best at the Midwest Regional, finishing sixth with a mark of 48.23m (158-03). Fans can follow live results from the meet by logging on to www.FlashResults.com.
