Irving, Texas - - University of Houston sophomore sprinter Carey LaCour and USF's senior thrower Chandra Brewer and Houston sprinter Carey LaCour were named Female and Male Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Year. The Athletes of the Year were selected by a vote of C-USA men's and women's head track and field coaches.

LaCour advanced to the semifinals of the 200-meter dash at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, narrowly missing the finals after posting a 20.58 to finish 10th. The top nine times made the finals. The sophomore did earn All-Midwest Region honors with a third-place showing at the regional meet to make the NCAA field.

The Humble, Texas, native was a double-winner at the C-USA Championship after notching victories in the 200 meters (20.68) and 400 meters (46.02). He also anchored the Cougars' winning 4x100-meter relay team that set a meet record with a time of 39.57. With his two individual titles and one relay title on his home track, LaCour was named the Male Athlete of the Meet.

Brewer was the highest individual finisher among C-USA athletes at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship in Sacremento, Calif., where she posted a fifth-place finish in the shot put. That performance secured her third-consecutive All-America honors in the event.

The senior broke her own school record in the event at the championship with a toss of 55-04.50" during preliminary action. She was also successful at the C-USA Championship, sharing Co-Athlete of the Meet honors after winning both the shot put and discus titles in Houston.
