Floyd Named C-USA Track and Field Female Athlete of the Year
June 18, 2007 IRVING, Texas -- Senior Ebonie Floyd was named the Conference USA Track and Field Female Athlete of the Year as announced by the conference office Monday, following a vote by the league's head coaches. This is the second time Floyd has been named the Athlete of the Year. She also won the award for her performance last season. Floyd ended one of the most successful track and field careers in Cougar history, setting three Conference USA records at the Outdoor Championships in the 200 meters (22.67), 400 meters (51.74) and in the 4x100 relay (44.24). She also recorded the second fastest 200 meter time (22.32) in the world to set an NCAA Midwest Regional record. Floyd also won the 100 meters at the Regional on her way to being named the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association South Central Region Female Track Athlete of the Year. The Houston, Texas native earned All-American status at the NCAA Championships finishing second in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters. She was also a member of the 4x100 meter relay team that finished 10th in the prelims. Floyd concludes her career having set four indoor and outdoor school records, including four C-USA records and an NCAA Midwest Regional record. Floyd won in the award along with Rice's Pablo Solares who was named the Male Athlete of the Year.
