Track and Field Opens 2011-12 Campaign at Texas A&M Reveille Invitational

HOUSTON - The University of Houston track and field team opens its 2011-12 campaign with its third consecutive appearance at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station, Texas this Saturday.

Last season at this meet, the Cougars medaled in five individual events and two relays, where Doug Kelly, Joseph Irabor and Errol Nolan set a new school record in the men's 4x400 with a time of 3:08.52, while Brittany Wallace, Kayln Floyd, Clarissa Payton and Whitney Harris earned third place for the women.

Houston returns two of the four individual medalists inKarley King and John Fortune along with three of the four legs of the men and women's 4x400m relay teams.

Joining the competition this year along with Texas A&M and Houston will be TCU.

The one-day meet highlights 10 events per gender and begins at 12:25 p.m., with the men and women's 60m hurdles on the track, while the women's shot put and men's weight throw commences on the field. The Invitational concludes with the men and women's 4x400m relay at 2:20 p.m.

The Cougars take a month-long break before returning to action at the Yeoman Fieldhouse on Jan. 13 to host the annual Leonard Hilton Memorial.
