HOUSTON – The University of Houston track and field team had two athletes selected as the first Athletes of the Week announced by the American Athletic Conference Tuesday afternoon.
Senior Karley King was named the Female Field Athlete of the Week while sophomore Leshon Collins was named this week’s Male Track Athlete of the Week for their performances at the Texas A&M Reveille Invitational Dec. 7.
King finished on top of the women’s pole vault competition during the first meet of the season. She vaulted a meet record and a career-high 4.15m (13’-7.25”). The mark is the best in the nation by two inches, and two inches shy of the school record.
Collins also finished with the gold in the men’s 60-meter dash with a time of 6.70 seconds. He also tops the nation in the event, however he was just short of tying his personal best time.
After the holiday break, the Houston track and field team kicks off the 2013-14 indoor season at Yeoman Fieldhouse as they host the Houston Indoor Opener on Jan. 11, 2014.
