Shawna Florida Leads Lady Cougars to A Third-Place Finish at the Rice Cross Country Invitational
Sept. 12, 2004 Houston, Texas - Shawna Florida registered an eighth place finish to lead the University of Houston women's cross country team to a third-place finish at the 30th Annual Rice Invitational on September 11 in Houston. Florida completed the four-kilometer course in 14:38.43 and was just ahead of freshman teammate Oumama Hallal, who had a time of 14:44.19 to finish in ninth place. Laura Harlett finished in 11th place with a time of 14:52.15, while Adriane Guinn registered an 16th-place finish with a time of 15:09.01. Jennifer Harper finished in 18th place with a time of 15:09.01, and Cynthia Silva finished in 19th palce with a time of 15:33.72. Eva Madrid finished in 22nd place with a time of 15:55.21 and Katie Ryan had a time of 16:21.82. Rice won the women's team title with 19 points as the Lady Owls had the top four runners and five of the top 10 competitors in the race. Trinity finished as the runner-up team with 50 points and Houston had 60 points to finish in third place. Texas Southern finished in fourth place with 119 points. In the men's division, Houston had four competitors. Maurillio Sanchez was Houston's top runner as he completed the four-kilometer course in 11:45.10 to finish in seventh place. Steve Moreno had a time of 12:09.00 to finish in 14th place, while Paul Goodwin finished in 18th place with a time of 12:36.71 and 2003 All-Conference USA runner Cole Dailey had a time 12:37.97 to finish in 19th place overall.
