Cross Country Men Take Sixth, Women 11th at Rice Invitational
Sept. 14, 2012 HOUSTON- The University of Houston men's and women's cross country teams competed at 37th Annual Justin F. Cooper Memorial Rice Invitational Friday evening. The men's team finished sixth and the women finished 11th. "This meet provided a good starting point for us," Assistant Coach Steve Magnesssaid. "We really got to learn where everyone fit in verse some of the better teams in the state." Leading the way for the men was sophomore Yonas Tesfai, who finished the 6K course in a time of 16:59, placing sixth overall. Anthony Coleman placed 30th with a time of 17:37 with teammate Drevan Anderson-Kaapafinishing close behind with a time of 18:46 to place 37th. Senior Kathryn Ducommun finished out front for the Cougar women recording a time of 13:23 in the 4K course to finish 17th overall, followed by Taylor Beerplacing 43rd after at 13:54 performance. "On the men's side we had some really stand out performances from Yonas and Anthony," Magness said. "Anthony really took his performance to another level. For the women, Kathryn did a great job of competing with some very good women. She really set herself up for trying to break into that quality group of women."
