Cougar Men's Cross Country Finishes In Second Place At Sam Houston State Invitational
Sept. 21, 2002 Huntsville, Texas - The University of Houston men's cross country team had their best showing of the season with a second-place finish at the Sam Houston State Invitational on Friday, September 20. Freshman Sesar Figueroa led the Cougars as he finished in third place among the collegiate runners with a time of 24:11. Sophomore Jason Banes finished just behind Figueroa with a time of 24:14. Ronnie Martinez also finished in ninth place for the Cougars. Sam Houston State won the men's division with 43 points, while Houston was second with 63 points in the meet that included nine teams. In the women's division, Houston competed without their top two runners and finished in third place with a team score 76 points. Freshman Autumn Tawater was Houston's top performer as she finished in fourth place with a time 19:49. Teri Littlepage was eighth among the collegiate runners with a time 20:08 and Shawna Florida finished in 18th place with a time of 20:39.
