Sept. 29, 2007
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The University of Houston cross country women's team had an impressive fourth place finish in Friday's TAMCC Islander Classic while the men placed 8th overall in the meet. Oumama Hallal ran her third meet out front for the women placing 14th with an 18:28 time and Andrew Stover had a 23rd place finish, leading the men at a 28:13 time. "I'm very proud of our women," head coach Ryan Turner said. "They really stepped up and performed this meet. It was a big improvement from last week and they did great." Four of the women finished in the top half of the runners. Behind Hallal came Jessica Cook with a 28th place finish (19:10) and Kelcee Keenan with a 19:19 time in 33rd place. To bring in the back end of the Cougars were Adriane Guinn, 42nd place in 19:47, and Erica Hannemann in 20:13 for a 50th place finish. The men were lacking their top two runners and had Stover step up to lead the group. Following closely behind Stover were Antony Keller in 36th place and Ahmed Harb in 37th for a 28:29 time. "Andrew Stover ran a good race and really came forward for the team," Turner said. "It was a good experience for him and the other runners to see what it was like to be up front."
