AUSTIN- The University of Houston men's and women's cross country teams traveled outside of the Greater Houston Area for the first time this season to compete in the Rouge Grass Routes Grand Prix for the second consecutive year on Saturday morning. The men's team took home second place and the women finished in fourth.

"The team ran strong on a very challenging course and in tough conditions," assistant coach Steve Magness said. "On the men's side, we were trying a new strategy of starting conservatively and running stronger throughout the race. The men did a great job of running as a team and Nathan Pineda really stood out today. On the women's side, we took another good step. Chelsea Huebnerhad a good breakthrough and closed the gap to put us in a good position."

Sophomore Yonas Tesfai finished strong for the Cougars, finishing second overall in the 7.5K course with a time of 25:41.06. Next in line was sophomore Anthony Coleman. Coleman ran a time of 25:56.08 to take home sixth place. Freshman Nathan Pinedawas the third runner to cross the line for Houston, as he recorded a time of 26:03.39 to finish eighth overall.
