Lady Cougars Finish Ninth at Lehigh's Paul Short Run

Led by Jessica Oakes 14th place finish, the University of Houston women's cross country team finished in ninth place out of 37 teams at the Lehigh's Paul Short Run on Saturday, October 6. Houston finished the meet with 296 points, while Penn State won the meet with 109 team points and Bucknell was second with 123 points. Oakes completed the 6,000-meter course in 21:46.29 to finish 14th out of 269 runners, while Julie Perez was 41st in a time of 22:23.00. Rhode Island's Erin Silvering was the individual champion with a time of 21:08.00 and Penn State's Michelle Wale was the runner-up with a time of 21:15.85. Houston's other runners included Heather Howse, Monica Reyna and Terri Littlepage. Howse was 72nd with a time of 22:44.85, Reyna was 84th with a time of 22:55.14 and Terri Littlepage finished 85th in 22:55.73. In addition two other runners competed for the Lady Cougars, but did not count in the team scoring. Kelly McCarty finished 87th in the race with a time of 22:57.81 and Veronica Ramirez was 116th in 23:20.13. In the men's division, Houston finished 27th out of 37 teams with 713 points. Sophomore Jared Kuntz was the Cougars' top runner as he finished 98th in a time of 26:29.57. Toartou Kargou was 116th in a time of 26:38.80 and Ronnie Martinez had a time of 27:08.85. Kevin Ward was 166th with a time of 27:11.75 and Cole Dailey was 175th in a time of 27:17.29. The UH men's team will compete at the Texas A&M Invitational October 13 in College Station. The Lady Cougars will not run until they compete in the Conference USA Championships on October 27 in Greenville, N.C.
