Houston Cross Country Teams Finish Third at Texas A&M

The University of Houston men's and women's cross country teams both finished in third place at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday afternoon. Senior Mike Olague finished in third place of the men's race and sophomore Kelly McCarty was ninth in the women's race.

Olague finished the five-mile course with a time of 26:06, while McCarty completed the women's 5,000-meter course in 22:30.

In the women's race Houston's Heather Howse finished 21st with a time of 23:12, while Julie Perez was 30th in 23:24 and Terie Littlepage was 31st with a time of 23:25. In addition, Autumn Tawater completed the course in 23:35 to finish in 37th place and Shawna Florida had a time of 23:45.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was the women's team champion with 86 points, Rice was second with 88 points and Houston was third with 128 team points.

Texas won the men's race with 38 points, Sam Houston was second with 97 points and Houston was third with 111 points.

In addition to Olague, Ronnie Martinez had a time of 28:00 to finish in 22nd place. Sesar Figueroa was 24th with a time of 28:03, Toartou Kargou was 26 with a mark of 28:10 and Maurillo Sanchez completed the course in 28:48.

Houston will host the Houston Invitational on October 23 at the Texas National Golf Course in Willis. The meet with begin at 6:00 p.m.
