FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The University of Houston men's and women's cross country teams took on a large field of elite teams in the annual Chile Pepper Running Festival on Saturday morning. The men took home 16th overall, while the women finished in 28th.
"The teams competed well and put out a solid effort," Assistant Coach Steve Magness said. "Unfortunately, we had some people get sick at the wrong time and were a little under the weather for the meet."
Despite being under the weather, sophomore Yonas Tesfai finished the 10K in the lead spot for the Cougars for the third time this season, with a time of 31:33.7. Tesfai would take home 25th out of 313 runners.
On the women's side, senior Kathryn Ducommun crossed the line first for Houston. Ducommun recorded a time of 22:52.2 in the 6K, to finished 85th out of 340. Next in line was sophomore Taylor Beer, who clocked a time of 23:34.9 to take home 132nd.
The Cougars will take two weeks off from competition in preparation for the Conference USA Championship in Hattiesburg, Miss. on Oct. 29.
