LOUISVILLE – The Houston Cougar Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams wrapped the regular season with a pre-cursor race for the NCAA Championships at the 2017 Adidas Pre-National meet on Saturday, in Louisville, Ky.
Saturday’s Pre-National Race was held at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park, which will serve as the course for the NCAA Cross Country Championship meet in November.
The Houston men opened the action in the Men’s 8,000-meter Seeded race. Senior Brian Barraza kept pace with his strong season and crossed the line first for the Cougars in a 10th place finish in 23:22.1. G.J. Reyna entered the chute second for the Cougars with a time of 24:52.5, while Gabe Lara followed in 205th in 25:19.0. Chris Wallace (217th) and Matt Parmley (243rd) closed out the scoring for Houston with times of 25:26.3 and 25:42.2, respectively.
The Cougar men finished in 34th with 790 points.
The Women’s team closed action at the Pre-National meet with the 6,000-meter Unseeded Race. For the second-consecutive race, Jennifer Dunlap was the first Cougar across the line when she finished in 22:25.6 to take 75th. Meredith Sorensen finished right on her heels in 22:30.2 to finish 83rd, while Emely Morgado placed 154th in 23:17.2. Britani Gonzales and Ebony White finished 160th and 164th, respectively, with Gonzales running 23:21.2 and White crossing the line in 23:22.7.
The Houston women scored 539 points to finish 21st.
