Fayetteville, Ark. - The University of Houston men's and women's cross country teams ran well as they both finished among the top 20 teams at the 16th annual Chili Pepper Invitational Saturday morning.

With nine of the top 25 men's teams competing in the race, Houston finished in 12th place out of 31 teams with an overall time of 2:40:09.7 and had an average time of 32:03.8 in the 10-kilometer race.

Houston's top runner was Tyler Stanfield, who had the 34th fastest time in the race with 31:03.7. Sesar Figueroa finished in 37th place with a time of 31:11.2 and Cole Dailey had a time of 32:04.7. Houston's other competitors included Alex Winstel, who finished the race in 32:46.7; Paul Goodwin, who had a time of 33:03.2 and Chris McKinney, who completed the course in 33:52.6.

The host school Arkansas, won the meet with a combined time of 2:29:28.5, while the Arkansas Alumni team had a time of 2:32:12.0.

In the women's race, the Lady Cougars finished in 20th place among 31 teams with a combined time of 1:57:32.9 in the six-kilometer race. Veronica Ramirez was Houston's top runner as she finished 79th overall with a time of 23:02.9. Shawna Florida had a time of 23:21.6 and Oumama Hallal had a time of 23:21.7. Senior Jessica Oakes finished the race with a time of 23:31.1, while Laura Harlett had a time of 24:15.5 and Adriane Guinn completed the course in 25:33.0.

This is the final race for Houston before the Conference USA Championships on October 30 in Chicago.
