Lady Cougars Finish in Fifth Place at Sam Houston State Invitational

Huntsville, Texas- - The University of Houston women's cross country team finished in fifth place at the Sam Houston State Invitational with 137 points. Houston's top runner was Terie Littlepage, who finished in 10th place after completing the three-mile course in 18:50. Tulane won the team championship with 38 points, while McNeese State was the runner-up with 75 points. Lamar finished in third place with 82 points and North Texas was fourth with 91 points. Texas State University finished in sixth place with 148 points, while Southeast Louisiana (167 points), Nichols State (205 points) and Northwestern State (221 points) rounded out the field. Shawna Florida finished in 20th place for the Lady Cougars with a time of 19:16, while Janay Covington was 26th with a time of 19:26. Veronica Ramirez finished in 34th place with a time of 19:38. Cynthia Silva and Rachel Freeman finished in 47th and 48th place with both runners having a time of 20:42.
Tulane's Bessie Hatch was the individual champion with a time of 17:45, while Karen Lockyer of McNeese State finished in second place with a time of 18:04. Lamar's Rowen Baird finished in third place with a time of 18:08.
