HOUSTON -- The University of Houston cross country team's competed Saturday at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships in Greenville, NC. Friday's steady rain brought muddy and sloppy conditions but the race continued as scheduled with the men finishing fifth and the women finishing eighth.

The men were led by the 15th place finish of freshman Ahmed Harb. Harb's finish earned him a spot on the All-Conference Third Team. Finishing in 18th for the Cougars was freshman Michael Malain. Also recording a top 25 finish for UH was junior Paul Goodwin who came in 23rd with a time of 26:45.86. Other finishers for Houston was freshman Juston Perez (40th), senior Calum Neff (42nd), freshman Nathan Trimble (46th), freshman Daniel Martinez (48th), and freshman Chris Pine (51st).

For the women, freshman Jessica Cook led the way with her 25th place finish of 19:13.52. Finishing 31st for the Cougars was junior Oumama Hallal with a time of 17:30.60. Earning a 43rd place finish was junior Adriane Guinn with a time of 20:01.23. Also finishing at the championships was sophomores Eva Madrid (62nd), Jennifer Harper (63rd), and freshman Erica Hannemann.

The UTEP men defended their title to win the men's team championship and the UAB women won their first team title. Named the Coaches of the Year were UTEP's Paul Ereng (Men) and UAB's Ray Stanfield (Women).
