Cougars Wrap American Conference Championships

CINCINNATI -- The Houston Cougar Men's and Women's Cross Country teams opened postseason competition with a trip to the American Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships on Saturday at Voice of America Metropark.

ABOUT THE AMERICAN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS

Women's Top Finisher: Selena Sierra, 21:39.2, 22nd
Men's Top Finisher: GJ Reyna, 25:38.6, 23rd
Women's Team Finish: 9th, 220 points
Men's Team Finish: 8th, 215 points

HOW IT HAPPENED
Keeping up with the theme of the season, it was Selena Sierra and GJ Reyna who led the men's and women's teams across the line.

The women were up first with the 6K race, with Sierra leading the Cougars in 22nd place after running 21:39.2. Maddie Brown was the next to cross for Houston taking 44th in 22:36.0, while Emely Morgado ran 22:45.4 to finish 52nd. Nikita Prasad and Jennifer Dunlap rounded out the scoring for the Cougars finishing right on each other's heels with Prasad going 22:58.0 to finish 60th and Dunlap finishing in 61st in 23:02.2.

The Cougar women finished ninth overall with 220 points.

Continuing his impressive season, Reyna crossed as Houston's top finisher in the 8K for the fifth time in 2016. The sophomore went through the chute in 25:38.6 to finish 23rd. Kody Anderson was the next Cougar to cross running 26:13.5 to finish 38th, while Parmley ran 27:08.1 for a 52nd-place finish. Scoring concluded for the Cougars with Alex Arnold (27:25.7) in 56th and Isaac Pearce (27:58.1) in 60th.


 

 

The Houston men finished eighth overall with 215 points.
