College Station, Texas - The University of Houston women's cross country finished in eighth place at the NCAA South Central Regional Championships on Saturday, November 10, 2001, in College Station, Texas.

Arkansas won the meet with 36 points and Texas was second with 85 points. Baylor was third with 109 points and the host school, Texas A&M finished fourth with 109 points. Houston finished eighth in the meet as a team. Below are the team scores, top individual results and Houston's finishes.

The top runner in the meet for the Lady Cougars was sophomore Jessica Oakes, who finished 40th overall and 25th in the team standings with a time of 22:10. Freshman Kelly McCarty finished 38th in the race with a time of 22:42. Junior Heather Howse was 41st with a time of 22:47.

In the men's division, Houston finished in 16th place as Arkansas won the team championship with 56 points. Texas finished second with 115, while Tulane was third with 125 points, Baylor was fourth with 131 points and the host school, Texas A&M finished sixth with 136 points.

Houston's top finisher sophomore Jason Banes, who was 87th in the race with a time of 34:04. Banes edged his teammate, Toartou Kargou, who finished 88th in 34:08. Juan Cardenas was 92nd with a time of 34:21.
