Cougar Season Wraps at NCAA Regionals

Fayetteville, Ark. – The Houston Cougar Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams wrapped up the 2016 season at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship on Friday in Fayetteville, Ark.

Women’s Top Finisher: Selena Sierra, 21:52.2, 40th (6K)
Men’s Top Finisher: GJ Reyna, 32:01.7, 61st (10K)
Women’s Team Finish: 11th, 319 points

HOW IT HAPPENED
The women were on the track first for a 6,000-meter race and it was once again Selena Sierra who paced the Cougars across the finish line. Sierra went through the shoot in 21:52.2 to finish 40th overall and first for the Cougars for the sixth time in seven races this season.

Next to cross the line in 62nd place was Jennifer Dunlap who ran her 6K in 22:41.3, while Emely Morgado finished in 22:44.8 to place 66th. Maddie Brown and Nikita Prasad rounded out the scoring for the Cougars with Brown taking 72nd in 22:53.0, while Prasad ran 23:34.4 to place 94th. Kristin Powell (23:47.9; 100th) and Maria Gonzales (24:13.0, 119th) were the final Cougars across the line.

The Cougar women finished 11th overall with 319 points.

Three Houston men were in action at the NCAA Regional Championships. For the sixth time this season, the first to enter the chute for the Cougars was G.J. Reyna who finished the 10,000-meter race in 32:01.7 to place 51st. Matt Parmley was the next Cougar to cross in 96th while running 33:10.3, and Kody Anderson finished right on his heels in 33:17.8 to place 99th.
