Waco, Texas - The University of Houston men's and women's cross country teams closed out the 2002 season with eighth-place finishes at the NCAA South Central Regional Cross Country Championships in Waco, Texas on Saturday, November 16, 2002.

Senior Mike Olague was Houston's top runner with a 14th place finish. Olague finished the 10,000-meter course in 31:06.

Sophomore Kelly McCarty was Houston's top runner as she finished in 27th place. She completed the 6,000-meter course with a time of 22:03.

The University of Arkansas won both of the team's championships as the Razorbacks had 47 points as they had four of the top 10 runners in the men's race. The Lady 'Backs had three of the top four runners in the women's race and finished with 29 points.

Alistair Cragg of Arkansas was the men's individual champion with a time of 29:45 and SMU's Karin Van Rooyen was the women's individual champion with a time of 20:22.
