Terre Haute, Ind. - University of Houston cross country senior Wesley Ruttoh crossed the finish line in 130th place out of 252 competitors at the 2011 NCAA Cross Country Championships in Terre Haute, Ind., on Monday morning.

"I'm extremely proud of Wesley," head coach Ryan Turner said. "I felt like he got a little excited early in the race and went out harder than what I would've liked to have seen. He has had an amazing senior season and we are really excited to see what will happen during track season."

The Bomet, Kenya, native clocked in a time of 31:01.6 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course in his second trip to the NCAA Championships. Ruttoh also competed in the NCAA Championships while at Eastern Kentucky in 2007.

"The race was very competitive and a good experience," Ruttoh said. "After the first mile I was plagued by a back issue, and it was just tough for me to continue to push and race like I'm capable of racing. Because of this I started to fall a little behind, it was just too painful to continue to run at a high level."

Ruttoh will now set his sights on the 2011-12 track season.

"I'm in good shape for the indoor track season," Ruttoh said. "I am looking forward to competing in the 3K and 5K races, while competing in the one-mile for speed work."
