HOUSTON -- University of Houston freshman Stephanie Aldea was selected by Athletics Canada to represent her home country in the 2009 IAAF World Cross Country Championships in Amman, Jordan, last week.

The race will occur on March 28 and will be held at the Bisharat Golf Club in Southern Amman. Aldea will compete in the junior division comprised of athletes aged 19 and under in the 6,000-meter run.

Aldea competed for Canada at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships on March 7, placing seventh overall in the 4,000m race with a time of 13:29.77 in the junior division.

A native of Windosr, Ontario, Aldea became the first Cougar woman to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships since 1994 when she qualified for the competition last fall.
