Cross Country Sets Dates For High School Meet and Home Opener
June 1, 2011
HOUSTON - Head coach Ryan Turner and the University of Houston cross country program recently announced the upcoming fall dates for the 2011 UH Cougar Classic High School Invitational and the team's annual Johnny Morriss Invitational.
Open to local junior high and high school runners, this fall's high school meet is set for Saturday, Aug. 27. The following Friday, Turner and his team will kick off their season at home when the Cougars host the Johnny Morriss Invitational on Friday, Sept. 2.
The high school action will get underway early with a 7:30 a.m. start time. The lineup of races, as well as the course location, will be announced at a later date.
There is no limit on the number of entries allowed in any classification for the high school invitational and runners are encouraged to register as individuals if they will not be competing for a team.
Collegiate racing starts the following weekend when the Cougars open their season at home in the Johnny Morriss Invitational on Sept. 2. Again this season, Turner has set the UH invitational for the evening prior to Houston's home football opener to encourage his team to support their fellow Cougars. Houston is set to kickoff the season against UCLA at Robertson Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 3.
The women will race first with a 6:45 p.m. start time, while the men are set to go at 7:15 p.m. The course location and field of competitors will be announced at a later date.
All inquiries for both of the upcoming fall races can be directed to Coach Turner.
