Houston - The University of Houston will host 2006 Cougar Classic Cross Country Carnival from 7:20-11:30 a.m. on August 26 at MacGregor Park, just south of the University of Houston campus.

The Carnival begins with a men's five-kilometer race at 7:20 a.m. and is followed by an open women's five-kilometer race at 7:50. There also is a kid's one-kilometer fun run at 8:20 a.m. before ninth grade, high school and junior high teams begin racing at 8:30 a.m.

The ninth-grade races start at 8:30 a.m., with 12th-grade races beginning at 9:00 a.m., 11th-grade races at 9:30, 10th-grade races at 10:00 and junior high races beginning at 10:30. The meet will conclude with an awards ceremony at 11:30 a.m.

Each of the high school team places will be determined by the aggregate time of each school's five fastest runners, regardless of grade classification. Awards will be given to the top three teams and medals will be given to the top 15 individual finishers of each race. The junior high school races will not be scored. There also will be awards given to the winners in each of the open division and Top Five finishers in the Kids fun run.

The entry fees are $50 for each boy's team and girl's team, and $10 for each open entry. Entry packets are available at the RunSport store and at the MacGregor Park Recreation Center at 7:00 a.m. on the day of the race. All checks should be made out to the University of Houston.
