HOUSTON - The Houston Cougar men and women's cross country teams will begin their 2014 season with a meet against cross-town rival Houston Baptist Friday, August 29 at 5 p.m., at McGregor Park in Houston.

The men's team returns 17 athletes from the 2013-14 squad and will begin the season ranked ninth in the South Central Region as voted on by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) earlier this week.

The Cross Country men's team wrapped up the 2013 season with an 11th place finish at the South Central Regional in Waco, Texas. Yonas Tesfai returns for his senior season for the Cougars in 2014. Tesfai logged the fastest time for Houston at regionals with an 18th place finish and a time of 30:54.4.
