HOUSTON (Sept. 2) -- The University of Houston's men's and women's cross country teams were scheduled to open their seasons at the Rice Relays on September 1, but the meet was cancelled due to lightning in the area. The meet will not be rescheduled.

Teams from Houston, Rice, Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, Texas A&M, Baylor and Texas Southern began the race at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 1.

After lightning appeared in the area, the race was halted after the two-mile mark. The next meet for both of Houston's men's and women's cross country teams will be September 16 at the Rice Invitational on the Rice University campus in Houston.
