HOUSTON - The University of Houston cross country team was ranked among the South Central Region's top 15 voted by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association this week.

The men's team debuted at No. 14 and the women's squad was ranked No. 10. Both rankings are improvements from their 2008 regional finishes.

"Finishing in the top 15 is good," head coach Ryan Turner said. "Although we do not want to dwell on rankings, we are moving in the right direction."

The team has this weekend off but Turner will be sending a select few members to compete in the Rice Invitational Saturday, Sept. 19.

Both teams will return to action at the LSU Tiger XC Festival in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday, Sept. 26.
