    Cougars Make Strides At Pre-Nationals


    Men

    This Week: The University of Houston men's cross country team will travel to San Antonio, Texas, where the Cougars will compete in the University of Texas-San Antonio Cross Country Invitational on Friday, September 22.

    Last Meet: This will be Houston's first competition this season after the Rice Relays were cancelled on September 1 due to lightning.

    The Coach: Head coach Howie Ryan is in his 25th season at Houston as the cross country coach. Ryan has led the Cougars to two second-place NCAA Region VI finishes and four third place conference finishes.


    Women

    This Week: The University of Houston women's cross country team will travel to San Antonio, Texas, where the Lady Cougars will compete in the University of Texas-San Antonio Cross Country Invitational on Friday, September 22.

    Last Week: Houston finished in third place at the Rice Invitational last Saturday morning. The top performer for the Lady Cougars was Monica Reyna, who finished in fourth place among collegiate runners and in sixth place overall with a time of 12:28.62. Freshman Jessie Oakes made her debut and finished ninth among the collegians with a time of 12:42.63. In addition, Allie Mascarra and Heather Howse also ran in their first meet for Houston. Mascarra was 16th in a time of 13:01.56 and Howse was 17th in 13:04.51.

    The Coach: Head coach Theresa Fuqua is in her fifth season at Houston as the women's cross country coach. A record-setting runner at Houston, Fuqua has coached four all-Conference USA runners in her first four seasons at her alma mater.
