Lady Cougars Finish Second At Whataburger UTSA Invitational
San Antonio, Texas -- The University of Houston women's cross country
team finished second behind cross-town rival Rice University at the
Whataburger Texas-San Antonio Invitational on September 22.
The Lady Cougars had a team score of 58 points, while Rice won the team championship with 21. The host school, UTSA was third with 65 points, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi was fourth with 127 points, and Nichols State was fifth with 172 points. For the second week in a row, the Lady Cougars were paced by senior Monica Reyna, who finished fourth overall as an individual with a time of 19:33. Julie Perez was 12th in a time of 20:22 and freshman Jessica Oakes was 13th in 20:24 as she edged teammate Heather Howse, who finished 14th in 20:25. Karina Quesada was 15th with a time of 20:49 and Crystal Ryan was 19th in 21:12. Hayley Futrell finished 22 in 21:34 and Allie Mascarro was 27th in 21:59. Finally, Diana Niera finished the race in 22:33 as she was 34th as an individual runner.
The Lady Cougars return to action on Saturday, September 30, when the
Cougars travel to the Oklahoma State Invitational in Stillwater, Okla.
