HOUSTON--The University of Houston men and women's cross country teams travel to Baton Rouge, La. Saturday to compete in the LSU Tiger Cross Country Festival at the Highland Road Park.
The meet is slated to begin at 8 a.m. with the women's 6K race. The men will follow at 10 a.m. with an 8K race.
In addition to Houston, LSU, Louisiana Tech, Loyola, McNeese State, Southern, Southern-N.O., Tulane, and UL-Lafayette will compete.
The women's team looks to improve on their first-place streak, after two meets.
Entering the meet, the women are coming off a strong showing at the Ricardo Romo UTSA Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic Sept. 19, finishing first in the 5K with 42 points.
They were led by freshman Stephanie Aldea, who finished third with a time of 18:04.9. Freshmen Starla Garcia (19:27.3) and Megan Munoz (19:28.9) finished right behind her in sixth and seventh-place, respectively.
The men also had a strong performance at the UTSA meet, finishing fourth in the 5K event, with a total of 79 points.
Junior Antony Keller (16:24.7) and freshman Jesse Rodriguez (16:30.9) finished 20th and 21st, respectively.
