    HOUSTON - The University of Houston cross country team gears up for another meet after a week off as they head to Corpus Christi, Texas for the 2013 Islander Splash hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

    Houston was originally scheduled to attend the Rouge Grass Routes Grand Prix this weekend in Austin, but the meet was cancelled. Head coach Steve Magness rescheduled a meet for the team to continue preparation for the first American Athletic Conference meet in November.

    The race will take place at West Guth Park on the northwest side of Corpus Christi. The women's 5,000-meter run is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Friday followed by the men's 8,000-meter run at 6:25 p.m. Competitors from UT-Pan American, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Sam Houston State, Texas State, Texas Southern, Texas A&M International, Rogers St., UT-Brownsville and TAMUCC are expected to participate.

    The Cougars will take a few weeks off before the next scheduled meet, the Alabama Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala., Oct. 18.
