    HOUSTON - Junior Yonas Tesfai was named the first American Athletic Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week, league officials announced Tuesday morning, for his performance during last weeks meet in Corpus Christi, Texas.

    Tesfai won his first race of the season at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islander Splash 8,000-meter run. He finished with a time of 26:31.5 followed by teammate Brian Barraza. Tesfai led the team to a second place finish with 38 points, behind host TAMUCC.

    Houston Cross Country continues competition at the Alabama Crimson Classic scheduled Oct. 18.
