HOUSTON – The Houston Cougar Men’s and Women’s Cross Country teams return to action when they hit the road for the 2017 Adidas Pre-Nationals hosted, by Louisville, on Oct. 14.
The Pre-National meet, which serves as a pre-cursor for the NCAA Championships will be held at E.P. Tom Sawyer State Park, the same course that will host the championship in November. Houston will run in the men’s red race (8K) at 10 a.m. and each of the men’s (8K) and women’s (6K) black races at 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m., respectively.
The Houston men have picked up individual wins in each of their two competitions this season. Senior Brian Barraza claimed the title in the men’s 8,000-meter race at the Texas A&M Invitational, while junior G.J. Reyna opened the campaign with a victory at the Rice Invitational.
As a team, the men have tallied a pair of top-5 finishes after taking second at the Rice Invitational and fifth at the Texas A&M Invitational.
On the women’s side, Ebony White and Jennifer Dunlap have been the Cougars’ top finishers to open the season. White crossed the line first for the Cougars in 12th at the Rice Invitational, while Dunlap made her season debut with a 24th place finish at Texas A&M.
As a team, the women opened the season by finishing third at the Rice Invitational and followed that performance with a seventh-place finish at the Texas A&M Invitational.
