    Cougars To Compete In 39th Annual Rice Invitational


    COLLEGE STATION, Texas -- University of Houston junior cross country runner Mike Olague finished in third place at the Texas A&M Invitational on Saturday morning. Olague completed the course in 26:19 as he led Houston to a fifth-place finish in the men's collegiate race.

    Scott Lengefeld of the Texas A&M Alumni won the race in a time of 25:06, while Edmond Chapa of North Texas was second in a time of 26:15, just four seconds ahead of Olague.

    Houston's next best finisher behind Olague was freshman Jared Kuntz, who was 23rd in a time of 27:11. Gary Skinner was also 36th in a time of 27:35 and Tortou Kargou was 39th with a time of 27:41.

    Texas A&M won the men's team title with 71 points. North Texas was second with 76 points, Stephen F. Austin finished third with 115 points and Northwood University was fourth with 123 points. Houston finished fifth with 128 points while Sam Houston State was sixth with 162 points and Rice was seventh with 170 points.

    In the women's race, Houston finished fourth with 107 points. Texas A&M also won the women's team title with 21 points to beat Rice, who had 85 points, and Sam Houston State, who was third with 96 points.

    Senior Monica Reyna, who finished in 14th place with a time of 19:10, led the Lady Cougars. Texas A&M's Melissa Gulli won the women's race in a time of 17:54 to edge Erin Sims of Texas, who finished second in 17:56.

    Freshman Jessica Oakes also finished 19th for Houston in 19:23, and senior Karina Quesada was 26th in 19:29.
