Houston Cross Country Teams Return To Action

The University of Houston men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Saturday, October 16, at the University of Arkansas Chile Pepper Invitational. The race is schedule to begin at 10:00 a.m. in Fayetteville. The men's race will feature a 10-kilometer course, while the women's race will have a six-kilometer course.

The UH men's cross country team competed in the Notre Dame Invitational and finished in 17th place among 24 teams, including nine of the nation's Top 25 squads. Sesar Figueroa was Houston's top runner as he completed the eight-kilometer course with a time of 24:44. Derek York had a time of 24:46, while Tyler Stanfield had a time of 24:54 and Cole Dailey had a time of 26:18.

The Lady Cougars competed at the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Invitational on October 1 and sixth among 10 teams in the meet. Senior Jessica Oakes was Houston's top runner as she finished with a time of 19:09. It marked the first race for Oakes since she competed in the 2003 Rice Relays as an unattached runner. Senior Veronica Ramirez had a time of 19:19 and Oumama Hallal had a time of 19:44. Houston's other runners included Laura Harlett (19:49), Tiffany Abney (20:25), Adriane Guinn (20:37), Cynthia Silva (20:42) Jennifer Harper (21:41) and Eva Madrid (22:34).
