TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Freshman Brian Barraza led the University of Houston Cross Country team with a top-15 finish at the Crimson Classic in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Friday evening.

Barraza posted a time of 25:13.13 to finish 15th among 187 competitors. The El Paso, Texas, native topped his previous best of the season in the 8,000 meters of 26:36.4 which he set at the 2013 Islander Splash in Corpus Christi, Texas, earlier this season.

Junior Yonas Tesfai finished on the heels of his teammate by posting a 25:14.59, a time good enough for 16th place. Tesfai also improved on his previous 8K time of 26:31.5.

Overall the Cougars posted a ninth place finish out of 23 teams with 224 points.

Selena Sierra was the first Cougar to cross the line on the women's side. Sierra posted a personal record 18:20.66 in the 5,000-meter race.

The women finished in 20th place with a total score of 513 points.

The Cougars return to action Saturday, Nov. 2, at The American Athletic Conference Championships in Madison, Conn.
