Former Cross Country Runner Thom Birch Has Heart Attack

HOUSTON - Former University of Houston cross country runner Thom Birch died Thursday after a heart attack. Birch ran cross country at UH from 1973-76 and was living in New York when he died.

A three-year letterwinner, Birch was an All-American who won multiple races while he wore the Cougar uniform.

He and his wife, Beryl, were yoga instructors in New York.
