David Smith Named to Cross Country C-USA All-Academic Team

HOUSTON - University of Houston cross country junior David Smith was named to the Conference USA All-Academic Team as announced by the league office Friday afternoon. Smith, who was also recognized by the conference for his strong academic performance in 2010 currently holds the team-highest GPA with a 3.61 in American Sign Language. During his junior season Smith solidified himself as Houston's number three runner and went on to earn All-C-USA second team honors. The Houston native recorded his best finish of the season at the HBU Puma Invitational where he finished third. Following his performance, Smith notched his first C-USA Cross Country Athlete of the Week honor. A total of 14 student-athletes were named to the 2011 C-USA All-Academic Cross Country Team, as selected by the league's sports information contacts for cross country. The All-Academic team consists of student-athletes who are sophomores or redshirt freshmen with enough credit hours, and have earned a 3.2 cumulative grade point average or better and are a starter or key reserve on their team.
