Houston Memorabilia Auction Starts on Signing Day
Feb. 4, 2014
HOUSTON - The University of Houston's Department of Athletics announced Tuesday it will hold an online auction for six pieces of autographed Houston memorabilia and five unique UH experiences beginning 8 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 5 on UHCougars.com. The two-week auction will close at noon, Wed., Feb. 19. All proceeds from the auction will benefit Cougar Pride.
Fans who win the experience auctions will receive access inside the Houston Football program like no others. The first experience will occur on Friday, April 11, when an auction winner will have the opportunity to call the first play of Houston's spring game. The winner and guest will join the team at Carl Lewis Field for pregame warmups before meeting with assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Travis Bush to help select the game's first offensive play.
One lucky fan will have the opportunity to tour the Houston Football Stadium construction site with a player of their choice this spring. To take a tour with a player, the tour must be completed on either a Thursday or Friday afternoon before May 9 and is based on player availability.
Early August will mark the next experience as one lucky auction winner and a guest will go behind the scenes of 2014 Houston Football Media Day. The winner will have their video board headshot taken and will take a newcomer photo with head coach Tony Levine before sitting in on Levine's first press conference of the 2014 season.
Two other auction winners will win a pair of pregame field passes to a Houston home game of their choice this fall. All experience winners and guests must be at least 18.
The six autographed pieces include helmets, footballs and banners hung in Robertson Stadium. One UH fan or possibly a Buffalo Bills fan will take home a Bills' helmet autographed by former Houston great Antowain Smith and NFL Hall of Famer Thurman Thomas.
Cougar fans can also bid on UH Nike balls autographed by the entire 2014 team and a ball autographed by the 2014 signing class. The autographed collection is rounded out by three 4x6 foot banners that hung in Robertson Stadium and feature former UH players who have autographed the pieces. Matt Hogan, David Hunter and Phillip Steward have all placed their signatures on the items that would look great in any UH home.
