HOUSTON - The University of Houston's Student-Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) along with Cougar Pride raised over $5,000 for Tulane football player Devon Walker, who suffered a cervical spine fracture in a game at Tulsa on Sept. 8, in a fundraising effort at last Saturday's season-ending win over Tulane.
In addition to the Houston football team wearing helmet decals to show support for Walker, SAAC members were posted at several gates around the stadium collecting donations for Walker. Anyone who made a donation of at least $3 received a coupon for a free popcorn at the game while anyone who donated at least $10 also received a free reserved ticket for any Houston men's basketball game in December excluding the Dec. 1 Texas A&M game.
Walker, a senior at Tulane, is currently in a comprehensive in-patient rehabilitation center as he continues his recovery process.
Houston defeated Tulane, 40-17, in the final game of Robertson Stadium's 70-year existence.
