HOUSTON - Cougar Pride, the athletic fundraising body of the University of Houston Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, is proud to announce it has set a new annual athletics fundraising record and surpassed its annual fundraising goal for the 2012 fiscal year. By recording a total of just over $3.1 million, Cougar Pride surpasses its 2011 total by over $500,000 for its scholarship fund.
Cougar Pride is made up of alumni, fans, former student-athletes, coaches and friends joining together to ensure that current student-athletes have a first-class education and a chance to excel in the classroom and in competition. The individual and corporate memberships in Cougar Pride help to provide scholarships for more than 350 University of Houston student-athletes in 16 intercollegiate sports.
Cougar Pride is committed to raising significant funds to offset the cost of ever-increasing athletic scholarships for the outstanding Cougar student-athletes who are fulfilling their dreams. The annual cost per full scholarship to educate these men and women for the 2012-13 year is more than $19,000.
Each year since 2009, Cougar Pride has increased its total annual funds raised, from $2.1 million in 2009 to $3.1 million in 2012.
Cougar Pride looks forward to the 2013 fiscal year as it makes preparations to move to the BIG EAST Conference. In addition, the Cougar Pride staff will help to raise money for the brand new football facility, which will open for the football home opener in 2014.
