Sean Allen begins his fifth season as an assistant coach with the University of Houston baseball program after a stellar playing career. He continues his work with the Cougar infielders and serves as the team's hitting coach.

In 2006, Allen's sluggers blasted 71 home runs -- the fifth-highest total in UH single-season history -- with All-Conference USA First-Team performer Matt Weston's 16 bombs leading the way.

Cougar hitters also performed in crunch time under Allen's guidance that season, ranking among the league's Top Five team leaders in C-USA games only in batting average (.314) and slugging percentage (.544).

In 2005, Allen mentored a young team through some challenging times, including outfielder Travis Tully whose .430 batting average in C-USA games only led all players.

With a rash of injuries striking the Cougars throughout the 2004 season, Allen led the UH sluggers to a .305 team batting average and helped lead seven different players to hitting streaks of at least 10 games, a new school record.

In 2003, the Cougars overcame some early offensive struggles to take their place among the school's all-time great teams. Although UH hit only .276 as a team, the Cougar swung the bat well when it counted, recording a .312 batting average with 15 extra-base hits in five games during the Cougars' amazing run at the NCAA Regional at College Station.

Allen began his coaching career as a student assistant coach with the 2002 Cougar team. In that capacity, he worked with the UH infield and served as the team's first-base coach.

He helped lead the Cougars to their third Conference USA regular-season championship in the last four years and their second appearance in the NCAA Super Regional in the last three seasons. In addition, the Cougars tied a school record with 48 wins, equaling the mark set by the 2000 team, of which Allen was an integral part as the starting second baseman.

That kind of winning was nothing new to Allen, who enjoyed similar success with the Cougars as a player. A four-year letterman from 1998 to 2001, Allen ended his playing career as the Cougars' all-time leader with 542 assists from the field. In addition, his 192 assists in 2000 was the second-highest total in UH single-season history.

During his playing days, the Cougars competed in an NCAA Super Regionals and advanced to NCAA postseason play for three consecutive seasons. UH also set a school record with 48 wins in 2000.

As a senior in 2001, Allen competed in his third straight NCAA Regional as a player and was one of only two players to start all 59 games.

In 2000, Allen enjoyed his best season offensively as he batted to a .296 clip with 13 doubles, six home runs and 42 RBIs while helping the team set a new UH record with 48 wins and advancing to the NCAA Super Regional.

As the Cougars clinched the 2000 Conference USA Tournament championship over Cincinnati, Allen was named to the league's All-Tournament squad by batting .421 with three doubles, eight RBIs, four walks and six runs in only six games.

That hot hitting carried over into the NCAA postseason, as he sparked the team in the championship game of the NCAA Regional at Cougar Field with a two-run homer.

As a true freshman in 1998, Allen appeared in 47 games, the third-highest total by any Cougar rookie. Although he was hampered by a hamstring injury during the season, he still turned or started 34 of the team's 57 double plays.

Allen joined the Cougar Baseball program in 1998 after playing for Carlsbad High School in Carlsbad, N.M. As a prep star, Allen was a three-time All-District 4-4A honoree and helped lead the team to the state semifinals for four straight seasons with a championship in 1996.

Individually, Allen distinguished himself by being honored as the league's Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore and junior.

Allen received his bachelor's degree in sports administration from the University of Houston in 2001.

He is single and lives in Pearland.
