Was one of five freshmen from a year ago to be named to Freshman All-America teams... Earned position as Saturday starter in conference play...Confinuting to refine curveball to go with already solid fastball and change-up...Fierce competitor.

Earned Honorable Mention Freshman All-America honors from Collegiate Baseball... Served as the Cougars? regular Saturday starter during the Conference USA season... Started 12 games in his first season of Division I baseball... Second on the team with five victories... Ranked fifth among C-USA leaders with 83 strikeouts and was sixth with a .257 opposing batting average... Led staff in complete games and shutouts... Dropped his first four collegiate decisions before rallying to win five of his next seven decisions... Collected wins in four of his first five C-USA starts... Fired complete game shutouts over Southern Miss and UAB, including a one-hitter against the Blazers... Named as C-USA Pitcher of the Week for both performances, making him one of only four league hurlers to collect the award twice... Struck out a career-best 10 batters at Memphis (March 24) and against UAB (April 7)... Helped Cougars rebound from series-opening loss to Cincinatti with a win in game two of the series... Struck out eight while allowing only four hits and three runs against the Bearcats.

First Team All-State selection and Texas Player of the Year by the Texas High School Baseball Coaches Association...First Team All-Greater Houston selection by the Houston Chronicle...led Jersey Village to the Regional II semifinals and a team record of 25-5...was selected the Most Valuable Player of District 16-5A after posting an 11-1 record with a 1.75 ERA...struck out over 100 batters and allowed just 50 hits and 28 walks in 79.2 innings pitched...also batted .266 as an outfielder...coached in baseball by former Cougar letterman Mike Maddox (at UH 1972-75), the 16-5A Coach of the Year...also earned varsity letters in football as a wide reciever, helping the Falcons to an 8-3 record and second-place finish in the district...outstanding student who scored an 1180 on the SAT.

Born on April 9, 1982 in Houston...parents are Richard and Deborah Stavinoha...step-brother, Nick Stavinoha, was a member of the Cougar baseball team and was his battery-mate in high school...university studies major...was also recruited by Lamar and HBU.
