HOUSTON - Adam Rodgers RBI-single in the bottom of the 10th inning scored pinch runner Matt Moake and lifted No. 7 Rice to a 4-3 win over the University of Houston baseball team in Game Two of the annual Sterling Bank Silver Glove Series.
The Owls (8-1) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the best-of-five Series after taking a 7-6 win over the Cougars in 11 innings on Feb. 15 at Cougar Field in the Series opener. UH dropped to 2-6 overall this season.
UH held a 3-1 lead entering the bottom of the eighth inning before the Owls took advantage of a hit and two Cougar errors to tie the game. Joe Savery's RBI-single scored Brian Friday, who reached on the first UH miscue to lead off the inning, to pull the Owls to within a run, and Adam Rodgers' groundout allowed Tyler Henley to knot the game at 3-3.
Rice reliever Bryce Cox picked up his first win and improved to 1-0 after pitching a perfect 10th inning. UH reliever Shea Hancock dropped to 0-1 with the loss after giving up one run off two hits with a strikeout in one inning.
The loss spoiled the performance of UH starter Kevin Roberts who kept the Rice offense in check for most of the game. The Pearland, Texas, native limited the Owls to only one run off four hits with five strikeouts in a career-best-tying seven innings of work.
Rice's Greg Buchanan went 3-for-5, while Savery batted 2-for-5 with an RBI to pace the Owls.

In the third inning, the Owls scored the game's first run when Tyler Henley slapped an RBI-single into left center, allowing Josh Rodriguez to score from second base.
The Cougars grabbed their first lead of the game in the fifth inning with a pair of runs. Bryan Pounds started the rally with a double to right center and moved to third on Kori Williams' pinch-hit single up the middle.
Pounds then scored the tying run when Stewart's ground ball was misplayed in the Rice infield. Tully's RBI-single through the right side of the infield allowed Williams to score from second and gave the Cougars a 2-1 lead.
One inning later, the Cougars doubled their advantage. After drawing a leadoff walk and moving into scoring position on Matt Farrington's sacrifice bunt, Mark McGonigle made the score 3-1 when Roberts laced an RBI-single into center field.
