HOUSTON - Pacific second baseman Adam Ching's RBI-single in the top of the seventh inning snapped a 3-3 tie, lifting the Tigers to a 4-3 victory over the University of Houston baseball team Saturday night at Cougar Field.

Junior southpaw Jimmy Raviele was tagged with the loss for Houston. Entering the game in the seventh, Raviele struck out Jonathan Lewis before walking the number nine hitter Matt Fuson. Fuson advanced to second on Joe Oliveira's ground ball to second before being driven home on Ching's single to centerfield.

Houston would mount rally in their final at-bat as freshman Blake Kelso led off with a single to right. He advanced to second on sophomore Zak Presley's sac-bunt before moving on to third on a passed ball. Pacific reliever Larry Holscher, however, would strand the tying run just 90 feet from home as he retired junior Jimmy Cesario and freshman Chase Dempsay to notch the save and close out the game.

Freshman starter Jared Ray made his collegiate debut for the Cougars, tossing six solid innings in his first start. Ray allowed three runs, striking out seven and walking only two. After surrendering three runs in the third inning, Ray kept the Cougars close as he retired 11 of the 13 remaining batters he faced.

Hunter Carnevale picked up the win for the Tigers, tossing four shutout innings of relief.

For the second straight game, the Tigers grabbed the lead with the game's first runs, scoring three times in the third inning. Ching smashed a two-run double to left center to start the scoring, and Mike Walker followed with an RBI-single to left field to hand Pacific a 3-0 lead.

In the bottom of the frame, Lormand blasted a one-out solo home run over the left-field wall to trim the Tiger lead to 3-1. After a walk to Chase Dempsay and a single through the left side by Jake Stewart, Matt Murphy sliced a double down the left-field line to plate both runners and tie the game at 3-3.

Pacific starter Tyler Waldron pitched four innings, allowing three earned runs on four hits and four walks.

Senior Bryan Tully tossed 1.2 innings of shutout relief for the Cougars. Tully allowed one hit and notched one strikeout.
